Break Free was created to help clinicians break free from exploitative employers and start their own private practice!

All of the resources here are 100% free, from our quick start checklist to our growing list of experienced private practice owners who are available to answer questions and mentor you.

Starting a private practice can be scary but it doesn’t have to be difficult. Thousands of people have done it before you, and you can do it now.

How do I start my own practice

Who We Are

Break Free is a collective of mental health professionals

The mission of Break Free is to give back to the mental health community by helping aspiring private practice owners get the information that they need to open their own practices.

No More Gate-keeping

We believe that there is too much gate-keeping when it comes to the information needed to start and build a private practice. It can be difficult or impossible to find a job with a mentor that will teach you and allow you to transition to solo practice, some even ask you to sign ridiculous non-compete paperwork saying you won’t work within 50 miles of the practice for multiple years! The alternative to hands on experience are expensive coaching packages accessible only to those that have the means to pay hundreds to thousands of dollars for information that may or may not be helpful.

Join Us

If you are a private practice owner who would like to help other clinicians, join us! We need professionals to write informative posts on a variety of private practice topics and we also need mentors in all states who will work with aspiring practice owners for no charge. We know that you your time is valuable. Our founder, Stacey, often says, “My boundary is, I don’t work for free.” Mentors can choose how much time and access they would like to give to mentees – ideally one to two hours per month and you can choose if you’d like to limit that to email and not meet face to face. For article authors, posts on Break Free will link back to your website, which improves Google search rankings. In order to keep everything 100% free for aspiring practice owners, everyone involved with Break Free is a volunteer and no one is making money off this.
